About us

GHR was founded in 1996 and began from the front porch of the downtown Raleigh home of Mary Judd.  Mary also known to many in the community as “Mama Judd” answered a calling to serve breakfast to the homeless men, women and children in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.  Soon many were coming to partake in Mama Judd’s breakfast; but she soon found herself in violation of a city ordinance.  Not to be deterred, Mama Judd found another location and continued serving breakfast on Wednesday, Thursdays, and Friday along with a few dedicated volunteers. Soon breakfast evolved into a ministry of prayer, and connecting the homeless with resources from Wake Technical Community College, the NC Employment Security Office, and housing assistance.

OUR MISSION

We are a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to those less fortunate. Serving food to the hungry and providing hope for the despondent is our mission. We desire to meet the needs of those who may feel they have been left behind and forgotten. We want to recognize the worth of every individual in God's eyes.
